Your polite invitation to join in the interesting ceremonies of celebrating the introduction of the Croton water into the city of New York, I received this day, and it will afford me much pleasure to attend the same.
The subject of introducing pure and wholesome water in the city, was one that early engaged my attention when entering public life, and it does afford me much satisfaction to see its successful accomplishment.

Sin: I received the invitation of Committee to attend the celebration of the introduction
of the Croton water into the city, and hope my health will be so far restored by that day, as to allow me the pleasure of participating in the celebration of this event, to which I have looked with no ordinarycare and responsibility for near six years. The work, I trust, will fulfil the highest expectations of usefulness, which induced the city to enter
