The field where this celebrated affair happened lies south of the road which leads from Purchase Street to King Street, and in the middle or the back part of the field. Sickels Company was surprised at or near [page break] 776 297 Merritts corner and retreated under Mosier along the fields of action fields to my father's farm. Immediately west of the field of action you descend a hill at the foot and on the south of which is a chestnut tree surrounded by a small grove of locusts. This spot is distant from Merritt's corner a mile and a half or two miles.
