“Mr. Davis and others” inform John Macdonald of the route taken by the British army led by General William Tryon during the Battle of Compo Hill, which took place in Westport, Connecticut, on April 28, 1777.

Septr. 4 Mr. Davis and others, and our observations: “Old Hill seems to be about one mile and a half from the old bridge at [Saugatuck]. The cross or by-road which the British took in fording the river is about one mile from the bridge, or less than a mile.
