John Macdonald notes that Major Ebenezer Jessup (c.1767-1851) suggested several people in the area of Westport, Connecticut that he speak with regarding the Battle of Compo Hill, which took place on April 25, 1777.

1846 Septr. 7. Major Ebenezer Jessup, of West Port recommended me to talk with Messrs. Hyde, Buckley, Disbrow, Dyckman, Mrs. Couch, &c. The British crossed the Saugatuck upwards of a mile above the Old Bridge. The people about here were all soldiers.
