John M. McDonald interview — 1847-11-15
From the Westchester County Historical Society catalog:
Jackson Odell (1792-1849), the son of Westchester Guide John Odell, repeats a few pieces of information that he heard from a Mr. Vermilyea, likely Isaac Vermille of Greenburgh. He indicates that Captain John Althouse of Emmerich’s Chasseurs was a German, and then discusses the skirmish that took place at Lent’s Hill in Yonkers in 1778 and led to the capture of Loyalist Captain Joshua Barnes. He also notes that the force commanded by Major Eli Leavenworth may not have been larger than that led by Barnes.
