Roger Purdy (1753-1846) notes that he was a member of an American company of light horse commanded by Captain Samuel Treadwell when two British ships, the HMS Phoenix and HMS Rose, were engaged by a group of American galleys in the Hudson River near Tarrytown on August 16, 1776.

Portchester, Oct. 19th Roger Purdy:
In 1776, I belonged to Capt. Samuel Treadwell’s Company of Light Horse and was at Tarrytown when the British frigates attacked the American rowgalleys. Tredwell lived in the Purchase. The foragers, I think, did not pay.
