Croton’s popular Project MOVER e-bike share program will park its fleet for the winter on December 19th, but local cycling advocates are already mapping out an ambitious spring comeback.
During the November 20th meeting of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee, Chair Matt Arnold noted that despite the impending winter "hibernation," the village has plenty to celebrate. October statistics revealed Croton was the top municipality and boasted the top hub for the regional shared mobility program.
To capitalize on that momentum when the system presumably reopens in the first week of April, the committee floated the idea of a community group ride to Croton Point.
“Project MOVER management is eager to work with the Village on hub expansion,” Arnold noted, pointing to Sinasqua and North Riverside near the footbridge as prime candidates for new docking stations. A third or fourth location in the northern village, in the vicinity of Food Town, is also under consideration.
Currently, 369 vouchers remain for the program. While the bikes see heavy regional use, only about 10% of the vouchers have been utilized by Croton residents—a figure the committee hopes to boost with the new hub locations and the spring kickoff event.
In other business, the committee is partnering with the Croton-Harmon School District. Board of Education liaison Anamika reached out regarding a proposed "Walk, Ride, and Roll to School" day slated for Spring 2026 at CET and PVC, alongside a CET Bike Rodeo. The committee agreed to make this a priority discussion item for their next session.
The committee also reviewed proposed locations for new "Share the Road" signage on Maple Avenue, which have been forwarded to Village Manager Len Simon for review, and brainstormed ways to expand the "Slow Down Croton" traffic safety awareness campaign.
Residents should note that the committee’s next scheduled meeting on December 18th has been canceled. The public is encouraged to attend the next session on January 15, 2026, when the spring school events and MOVER hub expansion will take center stage.
