Dear Mr. Healy,
We know that the Village has, for several years now, been exploring uses for the Village owned plot of
land across from the Veterans Memorial at Five Corners at the intersection of Radnor Avenue and Old
Post Road South. The property is a shallow wooded piece of land which features a bus stop, a bench,
and multiple crosswalks. We understand it was once considered as a site to build a small house or two-
family home for eligible Veterans. We have also heard that the Arts Council and the Recreation
Advisory Panel are also proposing other uses for the property.
We hope and strongly recommend that whatever decision the Village makes for the use of that land,
even if it remains in its current passive state, that it be named in Honor of our Revolutionary War
Hero John “Rifle Jack” Peterson (aka Patterson) and contain a suitable monument, statue, bust,
or plaque, in recognition of his heroic Revolutionary War service. This is especially appropriate now as
we celebrate the 250" Anniversary of the founding of our country and the successful War that secured
our Independence. Recognizing Peterson with this well-deserved “naming” is a great way to open
Croton’s eight year (2025-2033) celebration of those momentous events.
Please contact us if there is anything else we should do to promote our cause. We know you are in the
midst of changing Village Laws and Regulations on the naming process for village signs and
properties, so we seek your guidance on this matter. You can reach me at 914 271-2566 or my Adjutant
Joseph A.Martinelli, at (914) 523-0413 . Thank you for your attention to this matter.
