Re:
Rifle Jack monument
The Village Board received a letter dated September 11, 2025, from the Fox-Eklof American Legion
Post 505 requesting that a monument to John “Rifle Jack” Peterson, a local Revolutionary War
soldier, be installed at a Village-owned parcel at 119 Radnor Avenue and that the parcel be dedicated
in his honor.
I have reviewed this letter in accordance with the recently-adopted naming policy for the Village. The
letter addresses all the requirements in the policy, with the exception of how the monument would be
funded. In further conversation with the American Legion, they are requesting that the Village fund
the erection of the monument in recognition of Peterson’s exceptional Revolutionary War service.
The Village Board may refer this memo and letter to its committees and/or the Village Historian
before making a final determination on the request.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
