To: The Board of Trustees From: The Police Advisory Committee Subject: Police body cameras Date: March 30, 2026 The Police Advisory Committee supports the Police Department purchasing body cameras for the following reasons. • Body worn cameras will provide transparency to the public. • Body worn cameras will protect the public and officers from false accusations. • Cameras record the last 30 seconds prior to the camera being turned on, ensuring the lead up to an incident is recorded for clarity. • Body worn cameras can be turned on remotely by the desk sergeant and provide the desk sergeant with visuals and audio if an officer is out of contact or injured and assistance is needed. • Body worn cameras are turned on manually by an officer or automatically turned on when the taser is removed from its holster, or the vehicle emergency lights are employed. They are not turned on during other situations such as an officer walking in the upper Village during lunch time, thus ensuring residents retain their privacy. • Body worn cameras are now standard for most Westchester County Police Departments.
