Re: Application for funding under the 2023 COPS Hiring Program Dear Bryan Healy: Thank you for submitting an application to the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) requesting funding under the 2023 COPS Hiring Program. We appreciate the time and effort expended throughout the application process. Unfortunately, the demand for funding in FY 2023 far exceeded the funding available under the program this year. I regret to inform you that your application was not among those selected for funding. We encourage your agency to apply again in future funding cycles. A detailed methodology, which describes how applications were reviewed and chosen for funding, can be found at [COPS Hiring Program (CHP) Awards | COPS OFFICE (usdoj.gov)]. Applications were evaluated using the data provided in the application and further assessed on the key factors as follows: • Reported local crime data • Current commitment to community policing • Planned community policing activities • Demonstrated need for federal assistance, including poverty and unemployment rates In addition, funds were distributed to both large and small agency types, as well as all states and territories per statutory guidelines. Final funding decisions were based on many considerations, including areas for preferential consideration outlined in the solicitation, past performance, strategic priorities, and available funding. Applicants can enhance future applications by clearly articulating their current commitment to community policing and planned community policing activities, and by considering creating projects that focus on one of the identified priority areas.
