Dear Mr. Healy:
Rob Abbot here, Croton Rotary volunteer, writing to you about the COVID dogwood
grove at Croton Landing. As you know, the Rotary Club started the grove in 2021 with
the installation of three dogwood trees by Bruce Laemel. Last year (with the kind
assistance of DPW), we added two more trees; we hope the grove will eventually have
six or seven healthy trees.
One of the original trees has not survived, and we would like to replace it this spring
with two younger specimens. Planting younger trees will increase their chance for
survival, and planting them within four or five feet from each other will allow their root
systems to eventually intertwine, increasing their stability against the wind. If approved,
the new trees would be installed by Rotary volunteers, with oversight from DPW.
Please let me know if you need any additional information about this request. Thank you
for your consideration.
