Re:
Gouveia Park
As you are all aware, my office has been investigating possible uses of the Gouveia Park property.
Numerous avenues have been explored over the past 18 months, including the release of two requests
for interest (RFIs). These RFIs did not return any serious prospects for the use of the house.
Trustee Nicholson has developed a historical narrative of the property since the Village Board
accepted the bequest from Mrs. Gouveia in 2013. This narrative includes the reports generated by two
separate ad-hoc committees for the property, which were written in 2015 and 2019. This narrative
also details the endowment funds that remain available for possible development of the property
(approximately 75% of the original bequest), as well as what has been spent thus far.
The one option that has been discussed in the past and remains viable at this point is relocating the
offices of the Recreation Department to the Gouveia House. The offices would occupy the first floor
of the property and the second floor would be available for programs, community events, art
exhibitions, parties, etc.
If the Board would like to move forward in this direction, I recommend that this narrative be referred
to the Recreation Advisory Committee for their review and comment back to the Board of Trustees.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you.
