Re:
Cannabis Tax Agreement
As you may be aware, existing New York State law allows for a town and village to modify the excise
tax distribution for cannabis sales. Under state law, the 3% tax would be evenly split at 1.5% for each
municipality. After discussing with the Town of Cortlandt, we have come to an agreement which
would allow the Village to retain 2% of the excise tax paid on cannabis sales which occur at a
dispensary in the Village, while the Town would receive 1%.
It is important to note that this agreement is being put in place proactively. There is no current plan
for a dispensary to open within the Village of Croton-on-Hudson.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
