To: The Village Board From: Croton Police Advisory Committee Subject: 2024-year end Police Advisory Committee report Date: November 15, 2024 The Police Advisory Committee (PAC) had another busy and successful year. The PAC has continued to work closely with the Croton Police Chief and his officers to address community concerns and enhance community policing while welcoming five new members to the committee. The committee met three times with school Superintendent Stephen Walker to discuss the 2023 survey which showed the second greatest area of concern to our residents is school safety. The Police Advisory Committee collaborated with Superintendent Walker to formulate questions about school safety for our 2025 survey to better understand residents’ concerns. The PAC spent considerable time planning the 2025 community survey on policing. The PAC had in depth discussions with Chief Nikitopoulos about staffing levels for the department and recommended to the board that the Village hire additional officers. PAC members cheered on the Police in the Special Olympic Torch Run as our officers carried the torch through Croton. PAC members toured 41 -51 Maple Street and met a representative of Regan Development during the tour. The PAC collaborated with local artist Eleanor Kwei to create a logo and t shirts for the PAC, making members easily identifiable at events. The PAC collaborated with the Police Department in planning for and assisted at National Night Out in August. The PAC began working with Croton Caring, the PBA, and the Police Department to collect gently used bicycles to give to the children of Croton Caring clients. To date over sixty-two bicycles have been collected. We have begun planning the Spring 2025 bicycle give-away event. The Harry Chapin Run Against Hunger committee sought PAC members to volunteer work at the October Run and one PAC member volunteered to assist. Unfortunately, the PACs mission of creating educational outreach was hampered by police staff unavailability for assisting with creating educational videos.
