When I moved to the village 2 years ago one of the first things I looked into was the dates for trash and recycling collection and found the yearly collection schedule. On the back of it the size specification for a trash container is 35 gallons so I am surprised to learn from the Board meeting material that the code is currently 20 gallons. I do not object to the size increase but wanted to point out this discrepancy. Also, regarding container size, it can be a little misleading that on the village website there is a form to order a 96-gallon container. Unless you open the form to find out that it is for businesses one might see the form link and think that 96 gallons is the residential size limit. The part of the proposed changes that I do object to is that everything must be in a container. I have two 35-gallon bins but on occasion have need to dispose of additional items, or items that will not fit in the containers. In those situations, especially for high volume /low weight items like Styrofoam packing, I use a 30-gallon bag and sandwich it in-between the other containers to stop it from rolling away. If I had to fit it in the two containers it would mean tearing apart the Styrofoam and risk it spilling all over the road. Please let us keep the ability to put items on the curb in bags as well as containers. I would like to suggest something. Once a month on the day before, day after, and day of a new moon can we have a dark sky program? Basically, on those three days, clear sky permitting, can the village, schools, MTA facility, turn off or greatly dim the lights so that we can enjoy the stars. It doesn't have to be all night but even just from 9pm to 2am might be enough. Anyway, just an idea. Finally, I am pleased that the Croton Point project is moving forward and have been excited to experience how well this village is run since moving here. Keep up the great work.
