Building Inspector Ronald Wegner, P.E., CEO Code Enforcement Officer Thor Snilsberg Fire Inspector James Ferguson MEMORANDUM Date: 1/21/25 To: From: Daniel O’Connor Subject: VEB Review of Proposed Post Clock at Maple Commons The Advisory Board on the Visual Environment (VEB) reviewed the proposed post clock at Maple Commons at their meeting on January 14, 2025. The VEB was supportive of a clock being installed near the entrance to the pocket park on the Maple Commons property at 43-45 Maple Street. The VEB reviewed a picture of a post clock that was installed in a different community, the drawing of the proposed post clock for Croton-on-Hudson, the rendering of Maple Commons with the post clock sketched in, cover letter from Electric Time Company, Inc., and other technical information on the clock. The VEB liked the proposed clock face and hands as shown in the drawing for the proposed Croton clock. They felt the roman numerals and hands were a timeless design. The color of the clock was discussed, including whether the clock color could be coordinated with the colors of the Village wayfaring signs one of which is located across the street. The VEB discussed the clock being painted the same blue (PMS 2167c, see attached design sheet for a Village sign) that is used on the wayfaring signs. After some discussion the VEB recommended that the clock be Matte Black as shown on the color sample sheet from Electric Clock. The VEB discussed the gold painted highlighting as shown on the picture of the post clock from the Town of Apex and discussed the possibility of the highlighting color being one of the colors used for the Village wayfaring signs such as the blue (PMS 2167c). VEB Review of Proposed Post Clock at Maple Commons Tel: 914-271-4783 www.crotononhudson-ny.gov engineering@crotononhudson-ny.gov The VEB discussed the clock face illumination and recommended that it not be overly bright. Additional plantings around the clock were recommended along with a lawn instead of wood chip mulch. The VEB wanted to know if the Village ever had a Village Clock in the past and if the Village Historian could answer this question. The VEB liked the idea of the optional GPS – no drift time controller. The VEB discussed the possibility of a three or four faced post clock and realized that this would have an additional cost. The VEB would like to see the final drawings for the clock including a color rendering showing a matte black clock with gold highlighting and another rendering with highlighting matching the blue color on the Village wayfaring signs.
