To: From: Date: January 11, 2024 Re: Croton Landing Parking Lot For the past few months, members of the Village staff and the Recreation Advisory Committee have been exploring the ability of increasing the available parking at Croton Landing. Parking on most weekends during the spring, summer and fall can be at a premium. The park is very popular with many varied groups, including bikers, walkers, fishermen, soccer players, etc. Having additional parking would improve access to the park facilities for both residents and visitors. It is also important to note that expanding the parking at Croton Landing is a stated goal in the Village’s Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan to allow increased access to our waterfront. DPW Superintendent Frank Balbi has put together two possible solutions, the diagrams of which are included in the meeting backup. The first possibility involves extending the existing gravel lot northward into the park behind the comfort station. This area of the park is not used for any activity and can be cleared easily. This expansion would add an additional 21 spaces for parking. The second possibility involves leasing a portion of the CSX Railroad property to create an additional parking lot. This would add more parking than the first option (42 spaces) but would come at an annual cost. It would also not involve disturbing the actual park. In its review of the proposals, the Recreation Advisory Committee leaned towards the first possibility as it would add some spaces while not beholding the Village to undertaking a lease for parking in perpetuity.
