To: From: Date: August 13, 2025 Re: Update on Various Village Initiatives This has been a very busy summer in the Village of Croton-on-Hudson and I wanted to provide the Village Board with a brief update on some exciting initiatives we are undertaking over the next few weeks. 1. Crosswalk Safety Signs: The Village will be running a trial this fall with crosswalk safety signs within three crosswalks on Cleveland Drive and Old Post Road South. These signs remind drivers to yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk. If the trial period runs successfully, we can look at expanding this initiative to other crosswalks in the Village. 2. Renewable Diesel Fuel: Superintendent of Public Works Frank Balbi and I have been working with Lindsay Audin, chair of the Sustainability Committee, to develop a pilot program for using renewable diesel fuel for our trucks. A number of communities have begun making the switch to this cleaner fuel. As proposed, the pilot program will run for the next six months with three DPW vehicles (sewer vacuum truck, gardener’s truck and street sweeper) to see if there are any adverse effects. If the pilot is successful, it could then be expanded to the full diesel fleet. 3. DPW Solar Canopy Project: We are currently out to bid for the construction of a solar canopy over a portion of the parking lot at the DPW Garage on Yorktown Road. The bid responses are due by September 4. The energy generated from this solar canopy will help reduce the electric bills for the garage. The project will be fully paid for through a NYSERDA grant obtained by Mr. Audin, for which I am very appreciative! 4. Dobbs Park Upgrades: The Village is moving forward, in conjunction with Westchester County, on bidding the new playground and basketball court at Dobbs Park. The bid is scheduled to be published on August 28 and are due back on September 11. We have also been working with the Croton Little League to undertake improvements to the infield/outfield at Dobbs Park Field, and replace the existing fencing at the field. It is anticipated that the work will take place this fall and winter, with the projects finished in time for the spring.
