Hi Bryan –
The Bicycle / Pedestrian Committee members discussed this topic during our
Committee meeting on July 10th.
At this time, the committee sees no need to make any meaningful distinction between
pedal-assist and other bicycles or introduce any further restrictions on their use
throughout the Village not already defined in the new statute.
As a safety management tool, the Committee would recommend posting 10 mph speed
limit signage, applying to all cyclists, along the shared pathway next to Elliott Way (that
stretches from Half Moon Bay to Senasqua park), as well as at the entrance of Croton
Landing. Short of restricting the use of the currently defined shared pathway between
Half Moon Bay and Senasqua Park, we would endorse encouraging riders to use the
Elliott Way roadway (e.g., through signage, but not codified).
The Committee will continue to monitor e-bike usage around the village, observant of
issues/concerns raised, and is willing to revise recommendations accordingly if
warranted.
