To: From: Date: January 17, 2024 Re: Sanitary Sewers on Mount Airy The Village was approached in September 2023 by residents of Mount Airy Road who inquired about the possibility of extending the sanitary sewer system northeastward from its current terminus along Mount Airy Road. A plan was originally crafted in the 1930s to extend the sewer system but was never implemented. Village Law and the Village Code provides for the costs related to the construction and expansion of sanitary sewer systems to be assessed upon the properties which stand to benefit from such construction and expansion. While we are still looking into the specifics of how such an assessment would work, it is likely that, if the Village Board decided to move forward with this project, that a bond would be taken out by the Village for the work and the impacted property owners paying the cost of that bond annually. A number of the parcels are also located outside the Ossining Sanitary Sewer District (OSSD). The Village would need to petition Westchester County to have these parcels included in the district, which is not an unusual process, but will take some time.
