February 5, 2024 Dear Resident: As you may be aware, the Village of Croton-on-Hudson has been monitoring and discussing the parking situation along Truesdale Drive, Nordica Drive, Cedar Lane and Old Post Road South (south of Morningside Drive). In 2023, the New York State Legislature passed legislation which provided the Village the ability to create a residential parking permit system on the aforementioned streets. A telephonic survey was done in May 2023 to determine whether or not residents supported the current weekend parking restrictions. A plurality of respondents (40%) chose the option that the current restrictions were working, but additional restrictions were needed. Thus, the Board of Trustees has requested a survey be taken to see if neighborhood residents support the idea of a residential parking permit system. To be clear, a residential parking permit system, if enacted, would allow vehicles registered to your household to remain parked on-street on Saturdays and Sundays from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Visitors to the area would be permitted to park on-street for a short period of time (the exact number of hours would be determined by the Board of Trustees when enacting the residential parking permit system). Furthermore, a residential parking permit system would not provide the ability for guest passes for residents. Guests planning to stay for a significant amount of time could park in the resident’s driveway while the vehicle with a residential parking permit parks legally on the street. O’Connor, P.E. As required by the enabling state legislation, 20% of each street must be left available for non- resident parking. These sections would also be available for residents to use. Non-residents would be time-limited in these sections; residents with a parking permit would not be time- limited. If a residential parking permit system was to be enacted, residents would be required to obtain a permit for each vehicle they intend to park on the street. Each household would receive two free permits, valid for a two-year period, with subsequent permits costing $10 each. Such permits would be in effect from 8 AM to 4 PM on weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day. You may email your comments to managersoffice@crotononhudson-ny.gov.
