Letter dated July 1, 2026 from Race Director Mike Grayeb and Assistant Race Director Carrie Sena outlining plans for the 2026 Harry Chapin Memorial Run Against Hunger, again a hybrid event with a virtual window of October 10-17 and an in-person event at Croton Harmon High School on October 18. The 5K starts at 8:30 a.m., the 10K at 10 a.m., and the One Mile Fun Run at 11:45 a.m., with the 10K again using the alternate route over the Croton Dam adopted in 2025 because of the Quaker Bridge closure. Bib and shirt pickup is planned at Asbury United Methodist Church on October 10, 15, and 17, and organizers describe coordinating with Croton police, fire, EMS, DPW, and other agencies as the event marks 45 years of Village support.

Mr. Bryan Healy
Village of Croton-on-Hudson
1 Van Wyck Street
Croton-on-Hudson, NY 10520
Dear Bryan,
In planning for this year’s Harry Chapin Memorial Run Against Hunger we have once again decided on
staging a hybrid event incorporating both a virtual event – run when and where you want -- as we did
last year -- and an in-person event based at Croton Harmon High School as we have traditionally done.
The virtual event will have a window of October 10th - 17th for participants to run or walk while the
in-person event will be held on October 18th.
As we did last year and in years past, our pre-race registration and tee-shirt pickup for both our virtual
event and in-person events were inside at Asbury United Methodist Church. This year we are planning
for the same operation. If for some reason we need to move this operation outdoors, as we had to in
2021 due to COVID-19, then we would implement a drive-through pickup operation by roping off some
parking spaces in the middle of the Asbury United Methodist Church parking lot for easy traffic flow
during our hours of operation while leaving access to the parking lot and the parking spaces along the
guardrail open to the general public.
If we can operate safely indoors then the discussion above about our special use of the parking lot
would be moot.
2026 Bib/Shirt Pickup Dates at Asbury Church
October 10
10am – 3pm pick-up and in-person registration
October 15
3:30pm – 6:30pm pick-up and in-person registration
October 17
10am – 3pm pick-up and in-person registration
10K Course Route
As you may recall, in 2025, we created an alternate route for our 10K Race due to the closure of
Quaker Bridge for reconstruction and because our traditional 10K course route crosses over that
bridge. The alternate route worked very well for us and we will be using that same route in 2026.

The alternate route has our 10K participants lining up at the starting line near 86 Old Post Road South,
and then proceeding down Old Post Road South and turning left onto Truesdale Drive and heading
across Truesdale to the parking lot and then the entrance to the Croton Gorge Trail, up the trail to the
cul-de-sac on Cleveland Drive, then up Cleveland to a right turn onto Jacoby St. Then from Jacoby to a
left turn onto Grand St./Route 129, followed by a quick right onto Batten Road. Runners will then
proceed to the far end of Batten Rd. and cross over Route 129 to Croton Dam Road where they will
then cross over the Croton Dam until they reach the far end of the dam. Then, they will turn around
and return on Croton Dam Road, cross over Route 129 to Batten Road, again run the length of Batten
Road and at the bottom turn left onto Grand St./Route 129 and then a quick right onto Jacoby St.
Runners will then turn right onto Cleveland Drive, and head toward Five Corners/Veterans Corners,
where they will turn right onto Old Post Road So. and finish at the usual location in front of Croton
Harmon High School.
As usual, our 5K Run/Walk will begin at 8:30 am and follow its usual course (which includes the Croton
Gorge trail), our 10K Run will begin at 10 am as usual, and our One Mile Fun Run will begin at 11:45 a.m.
as usual and follow its usual course.
We have made initial contact with Chief John Nikitopoulos of the Croton Police Department and have
since been in communication with Sgt. TJ Leonard of Croton Police, as well as Chris Caterino of Croton
Fire Department and Ken Gilleo and
Tiffany Gilleo of Croton Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to
coordinate safety and logistics. As in years past, we will also be reaching out to coordinate our efforts
with the Town of Cortlandt, New York State Police, Westchester County Police, and New York City
Department of Environmental Protection (the latter because our 10K course runs over the Croton
Dam).
In addition to the aforementioned departments and organizations, as in years past, we will also need
support from the Department of Public Works (DPW) for sawhorses, cones and the hanging of our
banner. We will be reaching out to DPW to coordinate these efforts as in years past.
We are deeply grateful to the Village Board of Trustees and Village officers and staff for their
unwavering support over the past 45 years. We realize that an event such as ours cannot be sustained
without the enthusiastic support and co-operation we have always received throughout Croton
Village government and the wider Croton community.
We look forward to working with you and others named above and their teams to stage a safe and
fun 2026 Harry Chapin Memorial Run and Walk Against Hunger. Thank you all!
