Croton River Parking Survey Report Village of Croton-on-Hudson March 20, 2024 Background: In the Village of Croton-on-Hudson, parking is currently prohibited on certain areas of Truesdale Drive, Nordica Drive and Cedar Lane on weekends and holidays from Memorial Day to Labor Day, in part due to the large number of individuals who park along these roadways and attempt to access the Croton River and Croton Gorge Unique Area through private property. A telephonic survey was done in May 2023 to determine whether or not residents supported the current weekend parking restrictions. A plurality of respondents (40%) chose the option that the current restrictions were working, but additional restrictions were needed. Thus, the Board of Trustees requested a survey be taken to see if neighborhood residents support the idea of a residential parking permit system. On February 5, 2024, the following survey was mailed to 85 households1 in the affected area: 1. Do you believe that parking is a problem on your street? ______ Yes, I believe parking is an issue. ______ No, I do not believe parking to be an issue. 2. Do you support the implementation of a resident permit system for on-street parking? ______ Yes, I support a resident permit system. ______ Yes, I support a resident permit system with additional weekday restrictions. ______ No, I do not support a resident permit system and would like the current restrictions to remain. ______ No, I do not support a resident permit system and would like additional weekday restrictions. ______ No, I do not support a resident permit system and would like no parking restrictions on my street. A follow-up reminder to complete the survey was sent to via the Everbridge system on February 26, 2024, which provided residents the opportunity to submit their answers online. 1 Addresses on Old Post Road South were excluded from the survey results, as there are currently no restrictions on that street. Therefore, it would not provide an accurate comparison with the other streets and Old Post Road South. Survey Results Of the 73 households surveyed on Truesdale, Nordica, And Cedar, the Village received a total of 36 responses, a 49% response rate. 56% of respondents favored a residential permit system, and 44% of respondents did not favor a resident permit system.
