To: From: Date: June 3, 2024 Re: Requests to New York State DOT I would like to bring the following requests to the Board’s attention for consideration: 1. Maple Street parking: In recent weeks, we have received a number of complaints regarding parking on the north side of Maple Street between the Asbury Methodist Church driveway and Old Post Road South. The road slightly narrows in this area and is also the location of a Bee-Line bus stop, which are both factors in support of eliminating parking in this section. If NYSDOT approved this request, it would result in two parking spaces being eliminated. I have spoken with both Chief Nikitopoulos and Superintendent Balbi and they are supportive of this request. 2. Route 129: I have initiated discussions with the Town of Cortlandt about making a joint request to the NYSDOT to have the speed limit on Route 129 lowered between the Village line and Croton Avenue in the Town. The premise behind this idea is that, by gradually lowering the speed limit by 5 mph at various intervals, vehicles will be more likely to drive the Village speed limit of 30 mph. Currently, the speed limit on Route 129 in the Town is 45 mph and has a 15 mph drop at the Village line. 3. Van Wyck Shopping Center egress: With the imminent completion of the Maple Commons project, there has been renewed requests to have a left turn prohibition instituted on the northern exit from the Van Wyck Shopping Center. The southern exit, in Van Wyck II, currently has a left turn prohibition. This request is reasonable as there is a exit point controlled by a traffic signal which provides for a safer alternative for vehicles wishing to go left (south) out of the shopping center. As Maple Street/Route 129 is a state road, the Board must pass a resolution affirming their support before the NYSDOT will consider the requests. If the Board is supportive of some or all of these requests, a resolution can be prepared for adoption at the June 12 board meeting. Please let me know if you have any questions.
