Croton Village Board of Trustees
January 12, 2012
Village of Croton-on-Hudson
1 Van Wyck Street
Croton, NY 10520
Dear Trustees:
In advance of the public hearing scheduled on the proposed indoor farmers market at the former
Blockbuster Video Store Community Markets has conducted informal research by asking the
business owners in the Van Wyck shopping center 1 and 2 and the Croton Commons. Here are our
findings.
Croton Commons
•
Chase Bank-the bank manager was happy to have more people and did not find any problem
with additional cars coming into the lot on a Saturday. It is busy she said but there are spots
open.
•
The owner of the Dry Cleaners did not want to comment.
•
The Purple Monkey opens at noon on Saturday and so we felt it would not affect them.
•
Save More Drugs referred me to Westcroft, the owners of Croton Commons but I could not
reach anyone.
Van Wyck 2
•
Cappricio II Pizza-Manager said it is not a problem and they might get more business.
•
Natural Nail and Foot Spa-Owner was not in.
•
Duncan Donuts-I spoke with the manager who felt more people coming would be an
advantage to her business. She has four parking spots for employees but usually only
two are filled per shift. One of her staff, during our discussion, said it was too far for
her to park on Riverside Ave. Even when her boss said, “But it would free up spaces
for our customers” she was adamant that it was inconvenient.
Van Wyck 1
•
CVS-The manager was not against our effort
•
The Black Cow-was fine with it.
•
Zeytinia-The manager was not happy with us being there mainly because of the parking.
When our marketing person, Frankie Rowland, told him about the recipe program we have at
the markets and offered to work with them on cross promotion, he sounded interested and
said “When can we get together”. Zeytinia makes their employees park over on Riverside
Ave.
•
Van Wyck Wines and Liquor-Store-manager was not in.
•
Dragon Fly Hair Salon-They had no problem with us.
•
Wachovia Bank-They had no problem with us.
•
State Farm insurance-They did not have any issues with it. The owner said he was from
Queens and he said “They have figured it out here with the parking compared to Queens”.
He also said he had at first looked into the Block Buster space but it was too expensive.
•
Pircio Cleaners-The owner was not in but the manager did not think it would be a problem.
