I would like to be considered for being on the agenda on January 4th to discuss this request with the Board. Because of the success of the outdoor farmers markets in the region, indoor markets have taken a tentative hold as well, although being only for several months of the year, it is difficult to find suitable space. We have looked at the space on Maple Street with the leasing agent as the 3,200 square ft is very close to what we need. The market would run Saturdays 7am-3pm inclusive of set up and break down from February to the end of May. Approximately 15 weeks if we start February 11th. The number of vendors selling on any day would be 24. The products would be similar to what one would find at a seasonal farmers market. The items are produce, including mushrooms, breads, pastry, organic nuts and nut butter, Long Island fish, pickles, meats including poultry, beef and pork and several farmstead cheese makers. Most of the vendors drop off their product and their sales staff meets them there. They then drive on to other sites. Very few large vehicles stay at this location. About 8-10 vans and cars from the smaller vendors and their staff could park on Riverside Ave.in designated spaces. Approximately 400-450 people visited the market when it was located in Briarcliff although I don’t expect the number to be as high in this location. The greatest number of shoppers came during the hours of 9-11am. If we get an approval for this I would like to request a reduction of the permit fee as this is a temporary use of the space.
