Abe,
Recreation has 2 push type blowers, and 3 backpack blowers. The backpack blowers are used at the
recreation facilities (not the facilities cut by the contractor) weekly after grass cutting and/or weed
cutting and trimming. The blowers are only on for a short period to clear the sidewalks and playground
areas after cutting and trimming. The push type are primarily used in the fall during leaf season at the
recreation facilities. They are not used before 8:00 am.
The contractor does use push type blowers and back pack blowers during cutting and trimming
operations at the recreation facilities and islands covered under the contract. The contract states that
they are not to begin work prior to 7:00am.
DPW has 2 push type, 2 backpack, and 1 handheld blowers. The push type are only used during leaf
season. The backpacks and handheld are used daily during the summer by the summer help employees
after cutting and trimming operations. Again, they are not used before 8:00am, and are only used for a
short period of time after cutting and trimming.
The push type blowers which are usually 8 HP or greater with a large impeller type blower attached are
the noisiest. The backpack, handheld, and weed whackers are relatively quiet compared to the push
type blowers.
Let me know if you need any additional information.
