Re:
Snowplow Naming Contest for Children
The Village of Croton-on-Hudson is seeking “creative, witty and fun” names for three of the snowplows in its
fleet from the children of the Village.
Mayor Pugh, along with Manager Healy and Superintendent of Public Works Frank Balbi, suggested that the
Village give an opportunity for resident children to name the Department of Public Works’ snowplows.
Similar successful contests have been held in Vermont and Minnesota.
Manager Healy, Superintendent Balbi, Recreation Supervisor Mark Duncan, and myself established the
Snowplow Naming Contest for Children. The contest is open to children who have residency in Croton-on-
Hudson and involves suggesting a name for the snowplow, accompanied by a brief description supporting their
suggestion. Three winners will be decided during the Recreation Advisory Committee Meeting on Tuesday,
February 8th. The winning names will be affixed upon the Village’s three biggest snowplows, as well as featured
in the March 2022 Village Newsletter.
The contest was opened on the Village website on Thursday, January 27th and will run through 12 p.m. on
Friday, February 4th. Recreation Supervisor Duncan and I will screen the applications for eligible entries before
turning over the submissions to the Recreation Advisory Committee. To date, we have received about 20
applications.
