To: From: Date: July 1, 2022 Re: Croton Gorge Unique Area I received word from Kelly Turturro, Regional Director for the DEC Region 3, on Tuesday that the state has made the decision to close the Croton Gorge Unique Area to visitors for the rest of the season due to accessibility issues. As you may be aware, a portion of the social trail which traverses the property enters onto private property. The DEC has decided that it is in the best interest to close the area and develop a plan to address access. The Village will be sharing information about the closure using resources from the DEC. Signage has been posted at the Unique Area, as well as at Gerlach Park in Ossining. Trail stewards from the NY-NJ Trails Conference will also remain stationed at the area to advise visitors of the closure. On the Croton side of the river, we will have police officers and park rangers patrolling the area to ensure there is no trespassing or other unauthorized access to the closed property.
