Re:
Maintenance of Village Parks
We have recently received complaints of increased Canadian Geese activity at Senasqua Park, which is leading
to unsanitary conditions and threatening activity to parkgoers. The Village Department of Public Works
contracts to have a non-toxic spray adhered to the grass in Senasqua Park on a bi-weekly basis which
discourages the geese from being in the park. We have increased the frequency of this application to every week
for the remainder of the summer. Additionally, the gate guards at Senasqua have been reminded to regularly
check and clean the pathways and pavilion for any goose droppings. Finally, we will be investigating the
installation of decoy animals such as coyotes, which has been done in the past, to discourage the birds from
landing in the park.
Additionally, we have received questions regarding the algae growth in both Kaplan’s Pond and Duck Pond
this summer. This plant, known as duckweed, has appeared in the ponds from time to time and will usually
dissipate once sustained hot weather arrives in mid-to-late summer. However, the Department of Public Works
conducted a site visit with an aquatic specialist who has recommended some non-toxic treatments which can
be applied to the ponds to help stymie the growth of this aquatic plant.
If you have any questions regarding the above, please let me know.
