Munson, President/Secretary, Croton Fire Council Date: July 25, 2022 Re: Fire Chief Residency Esteemed members of the Village of Croton Board of Trustees, For the past several months, the Croton Fire Council members have been working to increase our recruitment and retention efforts and seek more sustainable ways to see some of our qualified and willing candidates move up through our ranks. One such avenue to help us best serve our community is to have the option to enable interested members that may want to serve as Chief Officers of this Department to do so while living outside of our primary jurisdiction. Currently, in order to be a candidate for the position of Chief, First Assistant Chief or Second Assistant Chief of the Croton Volunteer Fire Department, a member must reside in the Village of Croton or the Mount Airy/Quaker Bridge Fire Protection Districts we cover in the Town of Cortlandt in accordance to our By-Laws. A proposal is in the works that would allow interested candidates whom reside in the adjacent Towns of Cortlandt, New Castle, Ossining and Yorktown to run for and hold the aforementioned positions of Chief Officers on a case by case basis as approved by the Fire Council. These residency requirements would match what we currently have in place for our Firefighters and Company-level Officers to simplify things in the best interest of the Council and our Department. We are seeking the approval of the Village of Croton to make this change so that we can best fulfill our ranks and allow qualified candidates that have a desire to serve our community in Chief Officer roles the option to do so. Having your approval for this is one of the final steps needed to move forward with this necessary change within our organization.
