Dear Westchester County committee leaders and members:
The Westchester Power Electricity Supply offer in Con Edison territory has
been on a temporary hiatus during the summer months, following the expiry of
the most recent contract on June 30, 2022. We are pleased to announce that
the new supply offer will be available as of November 1, 2022. Yesterday we
communicated this information to our municipal contacts in the
program's 24 participating municipalities (except Yonkers, which is on a
separate contract).
We hope that your committee might also assist in getting the word out to
residents about the Westchester Power information sessions we are hosting
this week about the resumption of the supply offer.
•
We will hold a total of 16 sessions on 8/31, 9/1 and 9/2. For
promotional/organizational purposes these will target regional groupings
(Upper Rivertowns, Lower Rivertowns, Sound Shore, Central County),
but for participants' convenience we will invite those who can’t make the
group sessions associated with their municipality to join any session.
•
Click here for a folder with graphics announcing the sessions
(customized by municipality) suitable for social media/web posting. In
addition, we have included sample copy at the bottom of this email that
you may include in your email blasts, social media posts, newsletters, or
on your website. We are grateful for your assistance promoting these
sessions as widely as possible to make sure residents have the
opportunity to learn and ask any questions they may have about the new
contract, and also for DPS compliance.
•
Sustainable Westchester has also published the zoom links to these
sessions on our website and shall be posting today through our social
media platforms. sustainablewestchester.org/wp/conedterritory#events
Please note that the sessions are scheduled for Wednesday 8/31
through Friday 9/2. We appreciate your assistance sharing
information about these sessions (given the short timeframe).
We recognize that the new rates, reflecting changes in the market, are
substantially higher than those of the previous contract. While higher electricity
rates will be a challenge for many residents, the program's fixed rates serve as
a price cap in these volatile times. Residents may opt out or back in at any time,
as well as select the standard supply if they choose.
We’re pleased that we are back on track. This signals the resumption of this
important contribution to greenhouse gas mitigation, and importantly, also re-
establishes this platform for continued advancement of Westchester’s clean
energy transition. It also signals our collective readiness for programming and
funds which will start to flow out of the new Federal and State budget
allocations in this sector.
Thanks and regards,
Dan Welsh, Program Director

The Westchester Power program electricity service will resume in November,
ending the current pause during which customers returned to Con Edison
supply. The program rates of 15.128 cents per kWh for 100% NYS renewable
supply and 13.364 cents for standard supply will be fixed until meter read dates
in November 2024. While the program notification letter will be mailed later in
September, Sustainable Westchester will host the first of a series of public
sessions on 8/31, 9/1 and 9/2 to provide information about the program and the
new contract. We encourage anyone who would like to learn more or who has
questions to attend - there are daytime and evening options listed
