Companies bought the equipment. Companies used them. Why is the board of trustees taking us all backwards? It’s 2025, we can do better. Haven’t we gone backwards enough in recent months? Make the ban permanent. I know our mayors’ opinion is that companies won’t bid on town jobs. Here’s one that will. Concepts Of Landscape, Inc. Croton owned, operated, has the battery equipment and uses it. What’s stopping you from accepting offers without the use of gas blowers? I know cost will be brought up. It will be more expensive, sure, such is progress. But, if you want to be cheap, be cheap at your house, not mine. We pay a premium tax rate to live here. Maybe put some of the dollars raised by the new housing developments into making the quality of life better for those who already live here? You’re adding more gas blowers every time a new building goes up… Maybe use some of the money the town gets by having another cell tower on this very building? Who are you protecting here? I know it’s not me and I know that I vote and I know this is an election year. I know you’re not protecting my son at PVC or the park. Are you protecting the companies that use dirty gas engines? You shouldn’t be. One gas blower puts out enough emissions in one hour to equal a car driving 1,100 miles. That’s one blower in one hour. There’s dozens, all day, every day, in croton. Cars are literally cleaner. Gas blowers make a 200-mile-an-hour winds that also spin up clouds of dust. That dust can contain pollen, mold, animal feces, heavy metals, and chemicals from herbicides and pesticides. This is fine if you’re on a huge property but not for regular people’s houses that are 30 feet from each other. Their pollution ends up in my house. Battery blowers can and have been getting the job done over the summer. Gas blowers in residential areas are overkill. This is a quality of life issue. These are the dirtiest gas engines in existence. They’re so loud they cause hearing damage. They spread dirt around and into our open windows along with gasolines fumes. Every month I see another community stand up to this pollution. Most recently, Stamford, CT. What are you waiting for? How can you get up and have a photo shoot and say Croton is a clean energy town and still allow gas leaf blowers? It’s nice of you to accept an award for planting trees, bike sharing, solar canopy project, but this is right up there in importance and it’s hypocritical to accept clean energy awards while allowing these awful, overpowered pollution engines. And it’s hypocritical to allow them on school property and in the parks where kids play. Temporary ban does not work. Make it permanent. Another thing. There’s no permit required to do business in Croton. So there’s literally dozens of companies out there using these pollution machines without regulation. It’s the Wild West. Here’s another source of potential income to make up for increased environmentally friendly landscaping, business permits. Tarrytown has them. Dobbs Ferry has them. How can you regulate when you don’t know who’s doing business? Look, I’m a voter. I’ve voted for all of you up there.
