Reports Subject 2.2 Hearing of the Public Type Report Hearing of the Public We believe that effective dialogue can occur only in an atmosphere of mutual respect; therefore, it is the policy of the Croton-Harmon Board of Education to conduct its business at meetings and in all communications, written and oral, in a manner that models respect and civility. We invite and expect members of the public to share this commitment with us. (Excerpt from Civility Policy 2010) New York State Law requires that the work of school boards be conducted before the public. Since school board meetings are not meant to be a meeting with the public, but rather a meeting held in view of the public, the best way for CH school district residents to communicate with the BOE is at our monthly “Meet the BOE”, community meetings scheduled throughout the year, through “Ask the BOE” or emailing us at BOE@chufsd.org. We also are happy to meet individually with residents to discuss concerns. As part of its monthly business meetings, the Croton-Harmon Board of Education has chosen to provide an opportunity for community members to share brief comments during “Hearing of the Public” sessions regarding issues affecting our schools. In an effort to be efficient and productive: Comments, particularly on agenda items, are welcomed; if a community member wishes to address non-agenda items, the opportunities listed above may be more productive. Individual speakers will be limited to 3 minutes. Speakers should state their name and Croton-Harmon School District address. All comments must be addressed to the Board Trustees. Comments about a specific person (staff, student or CH district resident) are prohibited. All comments should be in keeping with Civility policy 2010.  Members of the public in attendance at the meeting are expected to remain quiet, unless it is their turn to make a comment. The length of each hearing of the public is generally limited to 15 minutes, at the discretion of the Board President. Since Hearing of the Public sessions are for comments only, in most cases, the Board and/or administration will respond to open issues at a future date.
