Combining of Teams Multi-District Merger Applications (TEAM SPORTS) General Information Section One, a corporation within the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (hereafter referred to as NYSPHSAA) has adopted the following procedures as an expansion of the NYSPHSAA eligibility standards. Student bodies of NYSPHSAA member public schools, in the same district or within the Section, MAY be combined for interscholastic athletic competition and field a common participating team with the consent of Section One. 1. When the application to field a combined team is made, one of the schools shall be designated to administer the program (lead school). 2. Submission to NYSPHSAA Once the Section One Athletic Council approves the combining of teams, the Center for Interscholastic Athletics will notify NYSPHSAA in accordance with their reporting requirements. 3. The petitioning schools shall not institute, or be party to, legal proceedings against Section One or the NYSPHSAA in matters associated with the combining of teams’ applications. IT IS WITHIN THE PROVINCE OF THE ATHLETIC COUNCIL TO EXERCISE ITS JUDGEMENT TO ASSURE THAT SCHOOLS DO NOT USE THIS PROCESS TO GAIN ATHLETIC ADVANTAGE OVER OTHER MEMBER SCHOOLS. APPLICATION PROCESS FOR COMBINING TEAMS Multi-District Merger (TEAM SPORTS) | Combination Team/Individual = = ss Individual Sports Cross Country Swim & Dive Tennis Gymnastics Bowling Track & Field Skiing Wrestling Fencing Golf STEP 1 - Initiating the Process A complete application will include Lead School Cover Letter and Letters of Intent as well as a copy of the Board of Education Resolution from all participating schools. NOTE: The Lead School is responsible for gathering the required documentation and signatures from all participating schools before submitting application to the Center for Interscholastic Athletics. Deadlines for completed applications are subject to the following approval process: STEP 2 - Conference/League Review & Endorsement The Center for Interscholastic Athletics (CIA) will bring all completed requests to the appropriate Conferences to be placed on their next meeting agenda. Each Conference will discuss and vote on each application. When an application is rejected by the Conference the written reasons will be submitted to each school submitting the application. STEP 3 -— Athletic Council Approval Upon the completion of the review by the Conferences, the CIA will bring the combined team request to the Athletic Council for final approval. The Athletic Council will review the Conference approval or any statement of opposition prior to final approval. _Utilizing the NYSPHSAA Combining of Teams formula, merged teams will be scheduled within the defined Basic Athletic Conference structure defined by Article I, A of the Basic Concepts of Athletic Alignment (Sept 2022-June 2025).
