Advisory Board on the Visual Environment VEB (Minutes) Tuesday, August 11, 2026 7:00 p.m. via Zoom Present: Tatyana Polyak Jan Johnson Also Present: Bryan Healy, Village Manager Danalys Nazario, Assistant Building Inspector Stacey Nachtaler, Village Board of Trustees, Liasion Maria Slippen, Village Board of Trustees, Liasion 1. Call to Order 2. Sign Permit Applications a) Brooklyn Embodied Pilates – 18 Old Post Road South. The applicant clarified that the sign, mounted on a hanging bracket attached to the facade along Old Post Road, is approximate 10 feet, 2 inches above the sidewalk. She confirmed that the bracket is existing and was previously located at the site. The applicant was asked whether the “Brooklyn” reference on the sign reflects where she is from, which she confirmed. It was noted that the sign located near the side-yard entrance may not be visible to the public. The applicant was asked if she intends to provide a sign at the façade facing Maple Street. She indicated that she does not. The applicant was advised that, should she wish to install a new sign on the Maple Street façade in the future, it would comply with Village Code Section 230-44 P(4)(a)[2], which provides that such signs shall be limited as follows: “The aggregate area of all signs more than 2 times the length, in feet, of the wall in which they are placed.” The applicant also asked if there were any objections to using the side yard as a garden where customers could grow plants and herbs. No objection were raised, provided that hedges, brush or other vegetation do not encroach upon or obstruct the sidewalk. The Board discussed potential ways the Village could prevent future tenants from installing signage prior to submitting applications for review by the VEB. The rainbow squiggles that have been painted onto the front windows were initially going to be temporary and removed within the 45 day temporary sign timeframe. However, since they wanted to keep it through the end of August they submitted the Sign Permit Application, as explained in their letter submitted as part of the application. They are proposing a new design by Labor Day. It was explained that the next sign would not be submitted for VEB review as they will be replaced by new future temporary window paint designs. 4. Half Moon Bay Bridge Color Sample – The VEB unanimously agreed that color sample 26187 Gray (semi-gloss) for the steel girders underneath the bridge proposed design was acceptable. 5. Approval of Minutes – Draft Minutes June 9, 2026. There were no comments to the draft Minutes. Discussions not part of the Agenda: -It was asked if there was a standard for Signs throughout the Village. It was explained that the Village website has been updated and includes the VEB 2024 Annual Report, which shows what works in the Village and what to consider by way of guidance.
