This petition has collected 51 signatures using the online tools at ipetitions.com Printed on 2025-06-25 CALLING FOR AN IMMEDIATE, PERMANENT CEASEFIRE About this petition WHEREAS, the village of Croton on Hudson aspires to be a safe and welcoming community, and is committed to promoting peace, unity and respect for all of its residents and community members. WHEREAS, we have been dismayed by the rise of antisemitism, Islamophobia and Palestinian hate in our country following the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas attack on Israel and the country’s subsequent assault on Gaza. WHEREAS, we abhor the killing of 1200 Israelis on Oct. 7 and the more than 50,000 Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank who have been killed by Israel using U.S. weapons and assistance in the nearly two years since then. WHEREAS, we are anguished by Israel’s restriction of aid into Gaza, which has also led to deaths by starvation and disease. The UN is warning that acute malnutrition among Gaza’s young children has soared, and as of June 2025, more than 2,700 Palestinians under the age of 5 have been diagnosed. WHEREAS, the village of Croton on Hudson believes it is important for our community to speak up and oppose all forms of bigotry, hate, discrimination and violence in favor of a just and lasting peace in the region. We join with other municipalities across the U.S., organizations and citizens around the globe in this effort. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that We support the recent UN resolution that calls for an “immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in Gaza respected by all parties, the release of all hostages, the exchange of Palestinian prisoners, the return of all remains, and the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza as well as the start of a major multi-year reconstruction plan for Gaza.” We support the UN demands for “an immediate and unconditional lifting of all restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza and its safe and unhindered distribution at scale, including by the UN and humanitarian partners, throughout the Gaza Strip as well as the restoration of all essential services in line with international humanitarian law, the humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality and independence.” We support efforts in the U.S. Congress to establish an offensive arms embargo to Israel until these conditions are met.
