This estate was formerly held by the Cromwell family from whom it obtained, for a while, the name of " Croimt^eir s Neck!' In 16S5, John Cromwell, supposed nephew of the Lord Protector Oliver Cromwell, " and Elizabeth Cromwell, his wife, exchanged six acres of meadow with Thomas Hunt, for eight acres of upland, situated upon Castle Neck."'^ From the Cromwells it went to a younger branch of the Underbills* who conveyed it to the Rev.
