Mrs. John James Lambert: The British, on the 28th of April, 1777, were civil, but hungry, asking for bread. Mother happened to be baking and gave them all she had. Then baked more, which was taken by the rear guard. Baked again when the Americans came hungry and she fed them. Col. Heard said he kept the British dragoon officer off by swinging his sword behind him.
