October 22. Jesse Mollineux (or Millinex) of New Rochelle: "I remember well when Colonel Thomas came down opposite to City Island and attempted to take it. We turned out as I told you with our long duck guns and helped to drive him off &c. Whaleboat men once landed on City Island and captured all the inhabitants, but paroled them immediately. An understanding was entered into that the British should occupy City Island by day and the Americans by night which was faithfully kept. I now feel that I can no longer do any good here and feel wil- -ling to depart at any moment, being in truth weary of life," &c.
