October 17th Pierre Odell, of Greenburgh: "The height of my grandfather, John Odell, must have been when he stood up straight about six feet. The name of his first wife was Hannah McChain and that of his second Abigail Brown. The date of his second marriage which my letter informed you was in the year '96, must have been a mistake, as my father was born in August '92. My grandfather's last marriage, probably, occurred in '91 or previously. I have never heard of any commission as guide having been found among his papers. When first appointed Lieut. Governor Van Courtland presented him with a pair of pistols, and with a very fine white (grey?) horse which he rode during the whole war while in actual service.
