John Schureman: The British army, or part of them, in advancing to White Plains in 1776, passed my house, and so got upon the Maron eck and White Plains road. My father was killed by a party (supposed to be British refugees) who were plundering his cattle. Shube Merritt was bold and reckless. He married a Secor of New Rochelle.
