Plate IX: Acqueegenom — Crossing of the Westchester Path over Bronx River — Bolton (1922)

Photograph of Acqueegenom, the crossing place of the great Westchester Path over the Bronx River in Bronx Park. View looking north from Pelham Parkway. This was a major junction in the indigenous trail network — the path from here ran north through Westchester County past Croton to the highlands. The Lenape name ‘Acqueegenom’ refers to this important ford. Photograph by J. L. Nusbaum, 1921.
