Croton Water Reservoir — Augustus Fay Lithograph (1850)

Hand-colored lithograph by Augustus Fay showing the Croton Distributing Reservoir on Murray Hill, Manhattan. This massive Egyptian Revival fortress held 20 million gallons of Croton water and became a popular promenade — New Yorkers walked along the top walls for the view. It stood at 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue until demolished to build the New York Public Library.
