Isabella Grape — Grapes of New York (1908)

Photographic plate of the Isabella grape from 'The Grapes of New York' (1908). Isabella was the primary variety planted by Robert Underhill at Croton Point beginning in the 1830s. The dark-skinned grape produced a sweet, foxy wine that was enormously popular in antebellum America. At its peak, the Croton Point vineyard produced up to 20,000 gallons per year.
