John M. McDonald interview — 1846

From the Westchester County Historical Society catalog:
Valentine’s Hill in Yonkers is the high ground located south of the present Cross County Parkway and west of Central Park Avenue. During the Revolutionary War it was the tenant farm of the Valentine family, and the Valentine house was occupied by George Washington as his headquarters on October 22, 1776. The “Messrs. Valentine” were members of the family who were residing on the property when John Macdonald was conducting his interviews. They describe Washington’s departure from Valentine’s Hill on October 23, 1776.
