Good Morning, | am unable to attend the meeting this evening, but | wanted to share my thoughts regarding the proposed dispensary at the corner of Riverside and Benedict. | believe this new business has strong potential to positively contribute to our community. | have personally visited their Tarrytown location and have consistently had a positive experience. The establishment is well-maintained, including the surrounding sidewalk, and they actively support local events, making them a valuable addition to that community. This dispensary could also help attract visitors to the area, which may benefit other local businesses in Croton. Supporting small businesses that generate revenue and contribute to the local economy is important, and this proposal aligns with those goals. From my perspective, | do not see this as a traffic, safety, or quality-of-life concern for Harmon. Customers typically make their purchases and leave; there is no indication that loitering or public consumption would become an issue. Additionally, dispensaries operate under strict New York State regulations. Similar to liquor stores, there are safeguards in place, including mandatory ID verification to ensure that only individuals of legal age are permitted entry and purchase. There appears to be some concern in the community surrounding this change, but it is important to approach it with accurate information and an open mind. We already have establishments such as liquor stores, bars, and restaurants that serve alcohol without stigma. A legally regulated dispensary should be viewed in a similar light. They have attended Happy Hearts and we moved to Croton a while ago to enjoy the life away from the big city and its crime, drugs, etc. How disappointing to find that there is even the thought of this small town allowing a business to sell Drugs right across from where our children go to school. Where is the common sense in all this? Studies show that Cannabis Dispensaries in the area INCREASE illegal use of the drugs by teenage children by 35%. Read that again - "Illegal use by kids". So are we, as parents, and commuinity members going to support the rise of illegal drug use in our community? What ever happened to "Say no to Drugs"? The fact that it is even being considered is outrageous. There are plenty of profitable businesses that dont have harmful affects that could be there. Please vote "NO" on this, like any sane adult would. sincerely, Ken Choose One: Public Comments for Board Meeting Please include any questions or comments: Re Marijuana dispensary: We have definitive studies that show marijuana use, including medical marijuana use inhibits critical brain development before the age of 27 many people who are the age under are at high risk of developing psychosis from marijuana and there is also very limited evidence that medical marijuana is a treatment for illness, including pain, anxiety, and or depression, and in fact is shown to increase depression and anxiety. In addition there have been no double-blind placebo controlled studies regarding medical marijuana efficacy. We voted to call it medical marijuana, but that doesn’t mean it does anything before the age of 26/27. It has been proven. There are adverse psychosocial impacts to brain Development. Consistent use of marijuana set up failure for prefrontal cortex development. This is the last part of the brain to develop. | am against | dispensary in our town. In addition when a person develops psychosis from medical marijuana use the damage is often permanent. I am surprised anyone is in favor of putting this business in the heart of a residential neighborhood. The first question I have to ask is "where do these proponents live?". I live two blocks away on Benedict at the corner of Hastings. The DB Mart is our go-to place when we run out of milk or are looking for ice cream after dinner on a summer's night. Its one of the first places our kids were allowed to walk to alone to feel independent in Croton. Drive around Young and Hastings avenue any week day after school but be careful, there are several kids on bicycles navigating the streets. Harmon is a poster picture of what a family neighborhood looks like. I'm not against cannabis, I am against the clientel it will draw from out of town into our little slice of heaven. The traffic is already very congested when the train lets out. When the 100 apartments are built on Croton Point Avenue it will be even worse. Plus the odors, nothing more offensive than cannabis burning. We moved to Croton for the quiet peaceful village life. I believe it was mayor Elliott that used the phrase "Croton is a village within a park". Now I feel its being turned into a city which is very disappointing.
