Katherine Santone-LaPorta 19 Georgia Lane Croton-on-Hudson, NY 10520 September 19, 2024 Mr. Ronald Wegner Assistant Village Engineer Village of Croton. One Van Wyck St. Croton, NY 10520 Dear Ron, Olivia Sklar, our wonderful next-door neighbor whose friendship Alfred and I treasure (along with that of her husband, Peter Powchik) asked me to write you a letter about her carport project. It is my pleasure! Olivia is one of the warmest, nicest, most creative, ebullient, intelligent people I know. She is a perfect next-door neighbor, even going so far as to share, on occasion, her figs when they are at the peak of ripeness and perfect for eating. How many people do that? I love when she and I bump into each other and she has time to talk because then we can chat about the theater (she co-founded and ran for ages Hudson Stage), and it is so interesting to me. I love what Olivia and Peter have done with their beautiful home—it enhances Georgia Lane—and any time they’ve made a change or improvement they have given us a heads-up so we are in the loop. As they have done now with the carport project, so Alfred and I have no objection to their building it. Olivia is generous in sharing her valuable contacts so when I ask for a recommendation for this or that, she gives me one or two and they’re always fabulous. Alfred concurs. I hope this brief letter lets you know what I think of Oliva and Peter as friends and neighbors, and I hope this letter serves its purpose. Please call me if you need more information. Best wishes, Katherine (submitted via email to rwegner@crotononhudson-ny.gov on September 19, 2024)
