May 10, 2021 Dear Resident: As you may be aware, the Village of Croton-on-Hudson has been studying the parking situation along Hastings Avenue and Young Avenue. A survey was done in 2019 regarding the preferences held by residents for residential permits vs. time-limit parking. Based on the results of that 2019 survey, the Board of Trustees passed a resolution in support of a residential parking permit system on these two streets and the Village’s state representatives introduced a bill in the legislature, which ultimately passed in 2020. However, since that survey was taken, the COVID-19 pandemic began and the driving and commuting habits of people changed. Before instituting the residential parking permit system, the Board of Trustees has requested another survey be taken to see if support still exists for such a system. As required by the enabling state legislation, 20% of each street must be left available for non-resident parking. These sections would also be available for residents to use. Non-residents would be time-limited in these sections; residents with a parking permit would not be time-limited. At this time, the plan would be to have non-resident parking areas in the following areas: - Hastings Avenue (total of 24 spaces): both sides of Hastings Ave. near Oneida Ave., both sides of Hastings Ave. near Devon Ave. and the dead end of Hastings Ave. - Young Avenue (total of 17 spaces): along the basketball court across from 50 Young Ave. and the southern end of Young Ave. near Devon Ave. Residents would have to purchase a permit for each of their vehicles they intended to park on the street; the cost of such permit would likely be $10 per year. Please let me know if you are in support of the above or would prefer the time-limit restrictions (no parking 8 to 10 a.m. weekdays) that are currently in effect.
